All Hallow's Eve Print Returns From the Dead!

The title of the Twenty~O~Five All Hallow's Eve New Orleans print is "Left Behind," and when we evacuated the area before Katrina, the original painting for this image literally was left behind. Thinking that I would be back in a couple of days, I left it in the bedroom on an easel which was knocked over by the flood. I have repainted the piece, and am now issuing it in retro.

When I was designing this in the summer of 2005, I kept wondering why I was putting a unicorn into it, and what that had to do with All Hallow's Eve in New Orleans. As soon as I heard the news that the levees had been breached, I thought about Shel Silverstein's Unicorn Song, with the final line, "The waters came down and sort of floated them away, and that's why you never see unicorns to this very day."
You, however, finally get to see this unicorn!

More About The "Mardi Gras Mystic"~

       The Laurel Wreath symbolizes triumph, and these are also the very same bay laurel leaves that yo mama puts into that big cast iron pot of red beans every Monday. We have to keep the red beans and rice coming if we are going to triumph over the adversity and tragedy that have befallen "The City That Care Forgot." The Star and Crescent together (seen topping the "Mystic's" staff) have long been used to represent the Crescent City of New Orleans officially. They have been featured on the badge of the NOPD since 1855, and decorate the lids of the French Quarter's antique water meter boxes, the crescent symbolizing the shape of the City itself as it was originally built along the curve of the Mississippi River. Hanging from a string of purple Mardi Gras beads around the "Mystic's" neck is a medallion with the Ohm symbol of Universal Harmony and Ultimate Reality. The sun on the "Mystic's" crown symbolizes rising awareness.
