More About The "Mardi Gras Mystic"~ The Laurel Wreath symbolizes triumph, and these are also the very same bay laurel leaves that yo mama puts into that big cast iron pot of red beans every Monday. We have to keep the red beans and rice coming if we are going to triumph over the adversity and tragedy that have befallen "The City That Care Forgot." The Star and Crescent together (seen topping the "Mystic's" staff) have long been used to represent the Crescent City of New Orleans officially. They have been featured on the badge of the NOPD since 1855, and decorate the lids of the French Quarter's antique water meter boxes, the crescent symbolizing the shape of the City itself as it was originally built along the curve of the Mississippi River. Hanging from a string of purple Mardi Gras beads around the "Mystic's" neck is a medallion with the Ohm symbol of Universal Harmony and Ultimate Reality. The sun on the "Mystic's" crown symbolizes rising awareness. "Courage and comfort! All shall yet go well." |
