All Hallow's Eve Print Returns From the Dead!

The title of the Twenty~O~Five All Hallow's Eve New Orleans print is "Left Behind," and when we evacuated the area before Katrina, the original painting for this image literally was left behind. Thinking that I would be back in a couple of days, I left it in the bedroom on an easel  which was knocked over by the flood. I have repainted the piece, and am now issuing it in retro.

When I was designing this in the summer of 2005, I kept wondering why I was putting a unicorn into it, and what that had to do with All Hallow's Eve in New Orleans.  As soon as I heard the news that the levees had been breached, I thought about Shel Silverstein's Unicorn Song, with the final line, "The waters came down and sort of floated them away, and that's why you never see unicorns to this very day."
You, however, finally get to see this unicorn!

It really is a Cool Dandelion! The puffs of fluff blowing off the Dandelion are forming the musical notation for the Treble Clef and the Base Clef! It's a Magic Dandelion. But, of course, they all are! The scarf in the painting is a Peter Max scarf from the 1960's.

They have developed a series of watercolor papers specifically engineered and coated for modern Giclée printing, providing a color intensity and crispness not possible with non-coated papers. The papers are produced in strict accordance with specifications for archive grade paper, are 100% acid free with a neutral pH that can withstand the tests of time over "several centuries."

About Ariadne ~

She is the Bride of Bacchus, who gave her a crown of jeweled roses as a wedding gift. Since Ariadne was mortal, she eventually died, and Bacchus threw the wedding crown into the sky where it became the constellation Corona Borealis, or Northern Crown. Ariadne had a past. She was the daughter of King Minos of Crete, who every year sacrificed a handful of Athenian youths to the Minotaur in the Labyrinth. Ariadne fell in love with Theseus, who was one of a batch of sacrificees, and gave him the ball of thread with which he found his way out of the Labyrinth. In return, Theseus promised under oath to take her back to Athens with him and marry her. Wretched Theseus, however, deserted Ariadne on the way home, leaving her to grieve on an island, where Bacchus (or Dionysus) discovered her and fell in love with her.  Ariadne looks truly delighted that everything has worked out so happily!
