It really is a Cool Dandelion! The puffs of fluff blowing off the Dandelion are forming the musical notation for the Treble Clef and the Base Clef! It's a Magic Dandelion. But, of course, they all are! The scarf in the painting is a Peter Max scarf from the 1960's.

About Ariadne ~ She is the Bride of Bacchus, who gave her a crown of jeweled roses as a wedding gift. Since Ariadne was mortal, she eventually died, and Bacchus threw the wedding crown into the sky where it became the constellation Corona Borealis, or Northern Crown. Ariadne had a past. She was the daughter of King Minos of Crete, who every year sacrificed a handful of Athenian youths to the Minotaur in the Labyrinth. Ariadne fell in love with Theseus, who was one of a batch of sacrificees, and gave him the ball of thread with which he found his way out of the Labyrinth. In return, Theseus promised under oath to take her back to Athens with him and marry her. Wretched Theseus, however, deserted Ariadne on the way home, leaving her to grieve on an island, where Bacchus (or Dionysus) discovered her and fell in love with her. Ariadne looks truly delighted that everything has worked out so happily!
